I love a good onion dip and making it with cottage cheese is an absolute game changer! You're going to love this Cottage Cheese Dip with Caramelized Onions!

Why Make a Cottage Cheese Dip?
Cottage cheese is packed with protein, is low in calories and provides a lot of nutrients. This dip is awesome served with veggies for an afternoon snack or to serve as an appetizer with chips.

Ingredients in the Cottage Cheese Dip
You could technically make this with only 2 ingredients if you used the onions and the cottage cheese but I added a few other seasonings for added flavor!
- Cottage Cheese - I used low-fat for less fat content but whole cottage cheese works great too.
- Onion - I used a yellow onion but a white onion or shallots would work nicely also
- Olive Oil - To cook the onions in
- Onion Powder
- Onion Salt from Trader Joe's - This is a tasty blend of granulated onion, garlic, minced onion, salt, green onion and chives.
- Lemon - I added a squeeze of lemon for freshness.
- Grated Parmesan Reggiano - I like the flavor this brings in but you can make it without if you don't have any.

How to Make Caramelized Onions
I love caramelized onions! The smell, the taste and the flavor are all so good!
First, heat a medium size skillet to medium heat while you're cutting the onion into slices. Add a drizzle of olive oil and the sliced onions to the pan to cook down till translucent and starting to brown. Add salt and continue stirring till golden brown.

Making Cottage Cheese Dip
While the onions cook, you can prep any veggies you want to serve with the dip. I cut up cucumbers, mini bell peppers and radish.

Once the onions are cooked, you can add them to a blender with the cottage cheese. Pulse to get started and add water to blend. Next, add the seasonings and blend till smooth.

Once all the veggies are cut, you can arrange them on a plate and set out a bowl for the cottage cheese dip.

Serving Cottage Cheese Dip with Caramelized Onions and Veggies
Pour the dip right into the bowl you'd like to serve it in. You can serve right away or refrigerate and enjoy later. I topped the dip with a little onion salt, chopped green onion and some of the remaining caramelized onions.
