Cafe Coyote in Old Town San Diego

Mark and I headed to Cafe Coyote in Old Town San Diego when we stayed at the Hacienda for our 5 year anniversary. We stopped in Cafe Coyote for an ice cold margarita during our stay. We had to try a few dishes to get a good feel for the food too.

We happened to stop in on Mother's Day weekend so they had a special menu to go along with their regular menu for Dia De Las Madres. I tried a really tasty pear margarita off the special menu - a must try. I also tasted the coconut pina margarita which was super refreshing and delicious.

We tried the dips and chips while we decided on what to order. The appetizer is a platter of nachos served with a couple salsas, white cheese sauce and guacamole. The dips and chips platter is great for a group stopping in for drinks and nibbles. My favorite was the super creamy and slightly spicy cheese sauce.

The cocktail de camaron (shrimp cocktail) was really flavorful. It isn't too spicy and the flavors are right on. The cocktail is served with chunks of avocado on top and surrounded by chips. Also an awesome dish to share. We wanted to get a good taste of the tacos so we tried the lobster, carne asada and the carnitas. We both agreed that the carnitas was by far the best. The carnitas was really tender and tasted like it had marinated in its juices for a while.

My favorite part of Cafe Coyote is also a family tradition. Any time I go to Old Town with my mom we stop by the outdoor fresh tortilla stand. The tortillas are served with butter and salsa and are oh so delicious! I had to get one before leaving.

And last but not least we had another round of margaritas. Cafe Coyote is one of the best spots in Old Town to grab a margarita, snack on appetizers and feast on tacos. It's also a fun spot to kick back and people watch. The restaurant is really big with 2 separate indoor areas with a large patio in the middle.

Have you been to Cafe Coyote in Old Town? What's your favorite dish?

We received a meal for media consideration. All opinions are my own.
