Have you heard about people making jam out of chia seeds? Well it is pretty genius. And probably the easiest thing I have made in a long time! Once the chia seeds are combined with a little warm water they form into a gel like consistency which is pretty perfect for making a natural jelly. Combine that with fruit and sweetener and you have yourself homemade jam in under 3 minutes of prep time. It only takes about an hour to really come together but I let mine sit overnight.
I went for blackberry jam since we had blackberries in the house but this recipe would be perfect with any berries. I think I will try strawberry next time.
Making jam from chia seeds is seriously so simple to do and is a much faster process than cooking the fruit down with sugar to make a jam. Plus you are getting the added nutrients found in Chia seeds. Chia is great for a little added energy and helps keep the belly full.
Once you combine the ingredients it looks like it is ready to eat but it's best to wait a little bit of time to let the chia seeds really expand and become soft.
The next morning I made a quick batch of biscuits and tried out the jam. It was a hit in our house and now we have a fun new recipe to share with friends.
Have you tried making chia jam? What do you think?
