    Desert Life in 29 Palms

Located right in the California desert, 29 Palms (Twentynine Palms) has slowly become one of our favorite family getaway spots. What started as a few visits to see my in-laws has grown into weekend adventures full of exploring, relaxing, and enjoying the desert life.

    Staying in 29 Palms

My in-laws live in 29 Palms so we typically go there a few times a year. My hubby and I have been going to the desert since I met him. (He has been going forever). When we first met we went to Gordon's Well for desert time. Now, as life has transformed we find ourselves in 29 Palms instead.

When we first started visiting Mark's parents and grandparents there wasn't as much out there as there is today. Mark, his parents, their dog and I would all sleep in a one room cabin together. We really got to know each other well back then 🙂 Now, that they have added on, there are probably sleeping accommodations for over 15 people. They have really expanded their home. They added on a house, 4 sleep trailers and still have the cabin.

29 Palms has become such a fun place for us to visit. The best part for me though is that it's relaxing. My mother-in-law helps out with my kiddo and gives me extra time to unwind.

    Playing in the Desert

This past trip there were about 11 of us that went out for the weekend. Oh and 8 dogs. My kiddo and one of her best buddies played together so well all weekend. They explored in their little jeep, checked out grandpa's mule, fed the horse, played with basketballs and played on the swing set.

We also let them run circles in the the horse's corral (without the horse in there).

    Family-Friendly Desert Activities

29 Palms may seem quiet at first glance, but there’s plenty to keep kids (and adults!) entertained:

Creative Adventures: Off-roading, nature walks, and exploring desert nooks provide endless opportunities for imaginative play.

Outdoor Exploration: Our kids love running around in the open desert, exploring trails, playing with toys, and being outside.

Playtime: With open spaces, it makes it easy for kids to burn off energy while parents can relax with the beautiful scenery.

Tips for Visiting 29 Palms with Family

Plan for open-space activities, the desert is perfect for hiking, biking, off-roading, prospecting for gold or just exploring.

Bring plenty of water and sun protection, especially during summer months.

If visiting family or friends, take advantage of shared accommodations to create fun group memories.

Focus on nature and local adventures, even simple activities like spotting wildlife or exploring trails can make the trip special.

Have you been to 29 Palms? What do you do for fun in the desert?

Our trips to 29 Palms are always filled with laughter, discovery, and family bonding. Whether you’re visiting relatives or planning a desert weekend getaway, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

I have never been to 29 Palms but after seeing these photos I would love to take the family! The little ATV's are too cute! And you always take great photos. Thanks for sharing. Excited for this new series.

Looks like you had a blast! We went to Palm Springs last year around this time and had an absolute blast. Gonna have to take another trip out there one of these days.

I love Palm Springs too! We usually go once a year for an annual golf trip (for the guys) and pool weekend for the ladies.
