Where to Stay in Barcelona
After researching the best neighborhoods to stay in Barcelona, I decided to book an Airbnb in the Poblenou neighborhood, and it turned out to be the perfect choice for our family.
Poblenou offers a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere than the busy city center while still providing easy access to Barcelona's top attractions. We loved that there were plenty of restaurants, cafés, playgrounds, and grocery stores within walking distance, making it easy to grab breakfast before sightseeing or dinner after a full day of exploring.
One of our favorite things about staying in Poblenou was being just a short walk from Bogatell Beach. After spending the day visiting Barcelona's famous landmarks, we would head to the beach in the late afternoon so the kids could play in the sand while we relaxed. Then we'd stop for dinner at one of the neighborhood restaurants before walking back to our Airbnb. It was the perfect way to end each day.
If you're looking for a family-friendly neighborhood in Barcelona that's safe, walkable, and close to both the beach and public transportation, I highly recommend staying in Poblenou.

Make Dinner Reservations
Our first evening, we ended up at an Italian restaurant, Iaia Cristina after getting turned away for not having a reservation at a few other restaurants late at night. Iaia Cristina was so good and a must try!
We learned quickly that dinner starts much later in the evening in Barcelona and if you go late, you might need a reservation. We would call ahead for our remaining evenings to make sure we would have a spot, but many places will give you a table if they have openings.

Day 1: Sagrada Família, Tapas & Beach Time
Our first full day in Barcelona was the perfect introduction to the city. We started with one of our favorite breakfasts of the trip, explored one of the world's most breathtaking landmarks, wandered through charming neighborhoods, enjoyed incredible tapas and paella, and ended the day relaxing by the Mediterranean. It was the perfect balance of sightseeing and downtime for our family.

Breakfast at Gabby's Brunch
We kicked off the day with breakfast at Gabby's Brunch, and it quickly became one of our favorite restaurants in Barcelona. We loved it so much that we came back a second time before leaving! Whether you're craving fluffy pancakes, avocado toast, smoothie bowls, or a great cup of coffee, this is the perfect place to fuel up before a day of sightseeing.

Visit Sagrada Família
No trip to Barcelona is complete without visiting Sagrada Família! Designed by renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, this iconic basilica is unlike anything we've ever seen. While the intricate exterior is breathtaking, the colorful stained-glass windows inside completely stole the show. As the sunlight streams through the windows, the entire basilica glows with vibrant shades of blue, green, orange, and red. It is truly amazing!
I recommend purchasing Sagrada Familia tickets in advance to make sure you get to go inside.

Explore the Sagrada Família Neighborhood
After visiting Sagrada Família, we spent some time wandering the surrounding neighborhood, and it quickly became one of our favorite areas in Barcelona. Beyond the iconic basilica, the neighborhood is filled with tree-lined streets, local cafés, charming shops, and beautiful architecture. We also came across several playgrounds, giving the kids a chance to burn off some energy before lunch, one of the many reasons we found Barcelona to be such a family-friendly city.
When lunchtime rolled around, we walked just a few minutes from Sagrada Família to La Bendita, a Mediterranean restaurant that ended up serving some of our favorite food of the trip. We shared a variety of delicious tapas and enjoyed one of the best paellas we had in Spain.
If you're spending the morning at Sagrada Família, I highly recommend adding La Bendita to your itinerary before continuing your day!

Spend the Afternoon at the Beach
After a busy morning of sightseeing, we headed back toward the coast for a relaxing afternoon at the beach. One of the things we loved most about Barcelona was how easy it was to combine world-famous attractions with time by the Mediterranean.
We stopped at a beach bar, Shoko for a refreshing drink and soaked up a little more of Barcelona's laid-back coastal vibe.
Dinner at Cuadro
We wrapped up our first day with dinner at Cuadro, another restaurant we loved so much that we returned later in the trip. The tapas were absolutely delicious, and the cozy atmosphere made it one of our favorite dining experiences in Barcelona.
If you're looking for a memorable dinner spot, Cuadro is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

Day 2: Park Güell, Gràcia & Gaudí's Masterpieces
Our second day in Barcelona was filled with colorful architecture and charming neighborhoods. We started the morning at Park Güell, wandered through the beautiful streets of Gràcia, visited Casa Vicens, and ended the day admiring Casa Batlló along Passeig de Gràcia before heading back to the beach.
We walked over to Artisa for coffee and pastries. The pastries were delicious and definitely worth trying, although we still preferred the coffee at Gabby's Brunch.

Start Your Morning at Park Güell
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Park Güell, Antoni Gaudí's colorful park filled with whimsical architecture, mosaic covered benches, and incredible panoramic views of Barcelona.
We booked our tickets for one of the first entry times of the morning, which I highly recommend. The cooler temperatures and smaller crowds made it much easier to explore and take photos before the park became busy.

Walk Through Gràcia
After leaving Park Güell, we walked downhill into the charming neighborhood of Gràcia, which quickly became another favorite area in Barcelona. The plazas, colorful buildings, local boutiques, and cafés made it feel like a completely different side of the city.
As we continued our walk, we couldn't resist stopping at another neighborhood bakery for even more pastries and coffee. One of our favorite parts of visiting Barcelona was discovering local cafés along the way rather than sticking to a schedule.
We also found a neighborhood playground where the kids could climb and play before continuing our walk.

Visit Casa Vicens
Continuing through Gràcia, we arrived at Casa Vicens, Antoni Gaudí's first major architectural masterpiece. Although it's often overshadowed by Sagrada Família and Casa Batlló, it's absolutely worth stopping to admire. The colorful ceramic tiles and intricate details offer an early glimpse into the style that would later make Gaudí world-famous.

Stroll Along Passeig de Gràcia
From Gràcia, we continued walking to Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona's most elegant streets. Along the way, we stopped for a few tapas for lunch. We checked out Casa Batlló, one of Gaudí's most recognizable buildings. Even if you don't go inside, the colorful façade is worth seeing in person.

Beach Time
After a busy morning and afternoon of exploring, we headed back to the beach to relax. The kids found an amazing climbing structure and spent a long time playing while we enjoyed the ocean views and slower pace.

Dinner at Clorofila
Dinner at Clorofila Barcelona ended up being one of our favorite meals of the trip. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, making it a standout after a full day of sightseeing.
This was also where I tried Spanish vermouth (vermut) for the first time, a fortified wine infused with herbs, spices, and citrus. It's a popular local tradition before a meal, and I can definitely see why!
Of course, we couldn't leave without one more stop at Cuadro for dessert. Since we'd already fallen in love with it earlier in the trip, it was the perfect way to end another incredible day in Barcelona.

Day 3: Picasso Museum, El Born & the Gothic Quarter
After two busy days of sightseeing, we left our third day mostly open with just one plan, the Picasso Museum. Sometimes those unplanned days end up being the most memorable.
Kyla picked Lilo for breakfast, and it turned out to be a great choice. We all enjoyed our breakfast and coffees. Before leaving Lilo, we couldn't resist trying the El Buzón de Barna postcard machine. For just €1, it dispenses a surprise illustrated postcard of Barcelona, and it ended up being one of our favorite souvenirs from the trip.

The Picasso Museum
After breakfast, we grabbed a taxi to the Picasso Museum so we could save our steps for exploring the rest of the day. The Picasso Museum was well worth the visit. It was fascinating to see Picasso's early work and how his artistic style evolved throughout his career. Even our kids enjoyed experiencing one of Barcelona's most famous museums.

Wandering in El Born
El Born quickly became my favorite neighborhood in Barcelona to explore. The narrow streets are lined with independent boutiques, local art galleries, cafés, and hidden courtyards that make you want to slow down and explore.
We found the popular coffee spot, Analogin with a vintage photo booth where we created a fun family keepsake from our trip. Then across the street we found another one at the coolest art shop in town, Galeria Maxo!

Barcelona Cathedral
We wandered toward the Barcelona Cathedral, taking our time through the beautiful streets of the Gothic Quarter. This area is full of history, charming plazas, colorful storefronts, and incredible architecture.
For lunch, we stopped at Story, a cozy restaurant tucked into El Born that ended up being one of our favorite meals in Barcelona. We shared several Catalan-inspired dishes and finished with a delicious Crema Catalana, Spain's signature custard dessert with its perfectly caramelized sugar topping. After our meal, Story surprised us with a complimentary floral digestif, and offer a non-alcoholic version, so even the kids could enjoy the experience. It was such a fun way to finish a delicious meal!

The rest of the afternoon was spent doing exactly what we love most while traveling, wandering without an agenda. We explored hidden alleyways, admired historic buildings, browsed local boutiques, and even did a little record shopping before making our way back to freshen up for dinner.
We wrapped up our final evening in Poblenou at Alma Loca, where we enjoyed another fantastic meal before taking one last stroll through the city.
No trip is complete without dessert, so we stopped for gelato and soaked in the atmosphere one last time before heading back to pack for our Mediterranean cruise the next morning.

Barcelona, we love you! This is one of the best places I have ever had the chance to visit. I loved the culture, the art, the people, the food and everything about this beautiful place. I love that it's an awesome city with a beach town vibe too.
