One of our new favorite destinations for a family staycation is at the Welk Resort San Diego! This place has it all, including awesome water slides, lots of pools, activities and beautiful rooms. The Welk Resort San Diego is an awesome spot to take the family on a San Diego Staycation. It's located right in Escondido, California and feels like you're in Palm Springs. It's nestled in among the hills and is surrounded by a golf course with awesome views.
Vacationing with Family
I love taking the kids on vacation but even more so when the place is fun for kids. This place was a dream for our kiddos. There was always something fun to do and we were able to relax too. The waterslide is definitely a favorite spot for our kids. We even went down a few times too. The Welk Resort has rooms that also have kitchens and some have multiple bedrooms. We talked about bringing the whole family next time we come. It's a great spot for friends and families to explore together.
The two largest pools both have a water slide and splash pads. The water slides don't empty into the pools which seems easier to watch where the kids come out.
We only visited the two largest pools and they both had food and drink options available. There are many other pools on site. I heard one is an adults only pool and the others are for all. The large pools have music playing, lounge chairs and tables with chairs.
We went straight to the pool when we arrived. When our room was ready we received a text message and then we checked in at the lobby. We checked out the room and unpacked our bags. I brought a couple meals and snacks since I knew there was a kitchen. We had orange chicken and rice with a baguette topped with tapenade. We enjoyed a tasty wine from the Welk Vineyard.
The rooms are very spacious in the suites. We had a 1 room suite with a pull out couch bed for the kids. The living room and the bedroom opened up to a large patio with a dining table and lounge chairs.
Welk Resort San Diego Activities
We had a full day of activities when we woke up the next morning. We started off with the beach style escape room. We didn't quite escape but we had fun trying to figure out the codes to open all the locks. The locks would open a room or door to another clue.
We also tried the under water virtual reality. Kyla has always wanted to try this and she absolutely loved it! The rest of us were having a hard time with the goggles and snorkel breathing but it was a pretty fun experience.
We stayed to enjoy the pool a little bit after the virtual reality.
Archery & Axe Throwing
I was hesitant when I booked axe throwing. I really wasn't sure what to expect but this turned out to be my favorite activity of the day. The axes are made of heavy duty plastic. I started throwing to see how it worked. I realized I could get the axe to stick into the wall. There is something very soothing about axe throwing, especially after this pandemic situation. It was the sort of release we all needed. Kyla loved the archery which was included in the axe throwing. We all went to town on both of these fun activities!
Our last morning, we lounged at the pool while the kids got a few more water slides down. We really enjoyed this relaxing staycation and can't wait to come again!
