Spring cleaning went into full effect at my house this weekend... and it feels good! I was greatly inspired by Amanda from Sunny Vegan. Check out her post on Simple Living. I have been putting cleaning and organizing on the back burner for far too long. Once I read a little more about simple living I realized it was time to get rid of the clutter!
Oftentimes I feel like going shopping to get something new to make me "happy". But I have realized that getting rid of something is just as invigorating as getting something new.
I started off by cleaning off my kitchen counters. I removed any item that I do not use weekly. I put my espresso machine in the cabinet and got rid of some things that were purely decorative that I didn't even like.
Yesterday, I tackled the hall cabinets. This ended up being a tough place to start since I often put random things here with no sense of organization. My hubby was super supportive in keeping me on track. It is weird how the brain wants to change from getting rid of stuff to trying to organize what you are looking at. I got rid of 2 bags of actual trash and have a box started for donations.
I set up three boxes to help keep me organized: move to office, move to attic and donate to someone else. This really helped me to stay on track with removing the clutter.
My main goal is to live a simpler life where I don't have to think about where something is and where I don't have to look through a bunch of other stuff to find where something is. I also want to just remove stuff that I am scared of getting rid of. I often keep something because of its sentimental value or because it was a gift. But really these things just pile up and leave me feeling disorganized.
Once I have reorganized, de-cluttered, and feel good about staying on track with my new simpler life... I will post some photo updates. Until then I will update you with any other new de-cluttering ideas. Please share with me how you are staying on track with a simpler lifestyle.
Have a great week! Enjoy, Bri
