What is there to do in Maui for Families?
One of the first and most obvious things you should do in Maui is go to the beach. There are so many amazing beaches to visit. Our favorites are Kamaole Beach Parks in Kihei, Kaanapali Beach, Honolua Bay for snorkeling and Olowalu Beach. A few of our other favorite things to do in Maui:
Adventuring Maui with Kids
My favorite way to spend the day in Maui with kids is to go on a long morning beach walk, then explore Maui with an adventure, enjoy lunch out (use our Maui Food + Drink guide), stop by the beach, then head back to the condo or hotel (we stayed in Maalaea), make dinner while the kids swim in the pool and watch the sun go down with a cocktail on the beach. This is my version of an amazing day in Maui.
More Adventure Ideas in Maui
Maui is an ideal location for relaxation but with kids, we like to keep it moving and have a good balance of adventuring and relaxing. Here are more adventure ideas for families in Maui
- View Haleakala at Sunrise
- Enjoy a Luau
- Go Spearfishing (best for older kids/teens and adults)
- Try a whale watching or sunset cruise
- Zipline through the Maui Tropical Plantation
- Swim with Sea Turtles
We saw so many sea turtles on our latest trip to Maui. One actually swam right next to the kids and I and scared us right out of the water. We were really close to shore and then the turtle swam up to the sand and came out for a sun bath. It was so exhilarating to see this beautiful large sea turtle swim right by us. The only time I had seen a sea turtle in Maui before was while snorkeling underwater. This time, we saw sea turtles all around even from the shore.

Shopping in Maui
A few of our favorite spots to shop in Maui are in downtown Lahaina, Whalers Village, Kīhei Kalama Village and 808 Clothing, Co. The kids loved the splash pad and climbing structure at Whalers Village. It was a great spot for them to burn some energy on our way to get lunch at Hula Grill in Kaanapali.
I hope you enjoy your next trip to Maui with your family! We had the best vacation and can’t wait to get back to Maui. Aloha! xo, Bri
