San Diego Food Love: Kitchen 4140

My kiddo and I were recently welcomed by Kitchen 4140 to try out their restaurant. Kitchen 4140 serves up fresh farm-to-table fare using local ingredients with incredible flavor. The crafty hand-made interior creates a home-style feel. We enjoyed our meal on the patio surrounded by hydroponic towers growing cilantro, radishes and more. Chef Metzger grows a variety of his ingredients for the restaurant including berries, lemons, chiles and arugula.

I loved the colors and overall feel of the restaurant. I started with their soup special of the day: seafood chowder. It was filled with large shrimp and clams. The flavor was incredibly fresh and creamy. The berry lemonade was very rich of flavor also. My kiddos water was served in a plastic cup with berries and oranges. A nice and simple touch.

For my main meal I went for the smoked Chicken Parpadelle: a hand made papardelle with smoked chicken, wild mushrooms, veggies and a lemon garlic sauce. The dish was hearty yet refreshing with the pops of tomato and lemon flavor. I am a sucker for papardelle pasta, it has become one of my favorites. It typically seems like a really heavy dish but the ingredients paired here was much more light.

The little miss placed her order for the kids grilled cheese and fresh fruit. She was very excited to see fresh berries as the fruit. So often restaurants serve cantaloupe and grapes which are also tasty but a little overused. The grilled cheese was a favorite even for me.

To finish off our meals we each got a dessert. She had the vanilla gelato with berries and I tried the bacon walnut brownie with fresh berries and vanilla gelato. A must try!

The outside patio also has a nice little yard for pups (or my kiddo) to run around in. She was fascinated by the cute small dog house.
