Oh how I love Thursday Date Nights with my hubby! We have been so lucky to have my mother-in-law helping us out lately. Since I work from home and our kiddo only goes to preschool for 8 hours a week – it makes for some long days! I am always excited to get extra help so we can have some alone (adult) time. This week we headed to Searsucker in Del Mar to try out the #HollyJollyMocktails and nibble on appetizers.
The North Coastal Prevention Coalition’s 2nd Holly Jolly Mocktails hope to inspire sober, festive cheer at local North County eateries from December 1 through New Years. The holiday campaign partners with popular restaurants to support best business practices and encourage responsible choices by patrons during this festive season. By creating and promoting special, non-alcohol beverage options, participating businesses join in the effort to prevent underage drinking and over-service of alcohol.
Our Mocktail Experience
I really enjoyed the spiced strawberry apple cider from Searsucker. It is a blend of their “Spark” Suja Juice with fresh mulled apple cider and lemon. It was really refreshing and simply delicious. And as you know – I really enjoy my cocktails but it was a nice break to enjoy a meal without one. The flavors and style of the drink still appeared like a cocktail so I still felt fancy. We also sampled the “Glow” Suja Juice. It was really yummy. I wish I had one now for breakfast. My hubby even liked it. Which is super crazy since he is not too big on anything green. I wonder if he knew there was kale, spinach and even collards in that drink. Hah! Ah well.. he enjoyed it.
The food at Searsucker was AH-MAZING! I have eaten there once before but it was a long time ago and I hadn’t quite remembered how good it was. The appetizers and dessert were my favorite. We had the:
Short Rib with horseradish and fried onion served with mashed potatoes
Triple Brie with Fig Jam
Spicy Shrimp with Bacon Cheddar Grits – SOOOO GOOOD!!
We also tried the Pear, Champagne, Walnut and goat cheese salad… mmm. And my hubby had the King Crab Mac. He really liked it but I think I realized I am not a fan of tarragon which is a flavor infused in the dish.
We had to try the Jameson Sundae for dessert. The menu says “Jameson infused ice cream, banana brûlée, bacon candy and cashew. Seriously, how do you not try that! It did not disappoint on any level and was the perfect end to our date.
So, technically I guess I did have a little alcohol in my sundae but the point here is to not over drink and to get home safely. I was happy to see that Searsucker also has their cold pressed juices on the menu all the time. When I was preggo I was always so excited to see some sort of fun beverage that was non-alcoholic.
I hope you have a fun holiday season and be safe! Check out the other participating restaurants:

I received the mocktails and appetizers so I could share this information. All opinions are my own.
